Our History

The Wine & Food Foundation of Texas was created in 1997 by the founders of the Texas Hill Country Wine & Food Festival, now internationally known and recognized. The Festival was originally organized 25 years ago to spotlight the Texas Hill Country, which is currently the second largest viticultural area (AVA) in the country, and provide consumers the opportunity to experience the Texas wine industry and its growing culinary scene. The Festival’s annual hallmark event was the Rare and Fine Wine Auction. Proceeds from the Auction benefited local charities.

The growth and success of the Auction sparked the idea for a dedicated organization to distribute Auction proceeds in wine and food. Founders, including Larry Peel, Susan Auler from Fall Creek Vineyards (www.fcv.com) and Leon Cikota from Republic Beverage (www.rndc-usa.com) envisioned a statewide organization that would bring together all those with a passion for excellence in the culinary arts. With the help of a few dedicated individuals, The Wine & Food Foundation of Texas was born.

To carry out its mission, the Foundation developed statewide grant programs and scholarships, including the Stephan Pyles Culinary Scholarship; one of the largest culinary scholarships in the country. We boasts an active and thriving membership program created to connect and inspire wine lovers and foodies of all interests and abilities. We invite you to come and be a part of The Wine and Food Foundation of Texas!
